Society Registration

Societies in India are formed under the Societies Registration Act, 1860 to support charitable purposes such as education, arts, sports, or cultural activities, and they require at least seven members.

To register, a unique name must be proposed, along with submission of the Memorandum of Association (MoA) and governing rules to the state registrar, with registration fees typically ranging between ₹500 and ₹5,000.

Key Features & Requirements

  • Purpose: Charitable, scientific, literary, or social welfare purposes (charitable trusts, educational institutions).
  • Members: Minimum 7 individuals, who can be Indian citizens or foreign nationals (subject to conditions).
  • Governing Body: A managing committee (President, Secretary, Treasurer) is required.

Document Requirements

  • PAN Card mandatorily required for all Indian partners.
  • Aadhaar Card, Passport, Voter ID, or Driver's License as address proof.
  • Bank statement, electricity bill, or phone bill (not older than 2 months) as residence proof.
  • Passport-sized photographs of all members.
  • Digital Signature Certificate (DSC).
  • Memorandum of Association (MoA).
  • Consent Forms.
